Free from the Reestablishment, Juliette finds herself at Omega Point among people with abilities like her own, hoping her life might finally get easier. It doesn't. She still can't escape the fear in people's eyes, still struggles to find where she fits, and her time with Adam grows thinner as he becomes more absorbed in the rebellion. Meanwhile, Warner is still out there, obsessed and searching for her, and Juliette has to figure out exactly how far she's willing to go to protect the people she's starting to care about.

Why I'm Fully On Team Warner Now

The enemies-to-lovers arc between Juliette and Warner is everything I wanted and didn't know I wanted. I know how I felt about him by the end of Shatter Me, and I know how conflicted I was supposed to be going into this book. None of that mattered once his side of the story really started unfolding here. He is, genuinely, perfect — and I don't say that lightly.

Juliette's growth in this book is something else. She spends so much of the story at war with herself, trying to suppress this staggering amount of power she has, wanting to hide and disappear instead of accepting what she's capable of. Watching her slowly start to realize she doesn't have to shut herself down — that she could actually learn to use her power for the people she loves instead of fearing it — genuinely moved me.

This love triangle is written the way love triangles are supposed to be written. I've seen other readers describe exactly this feeling: going in fully certain of your "team," only to realize partway through that your loyalty has quietly shifted without you noticing exactly when. That's what happened to me with Warner. It's messy and disorienting in the best possible way, and I think that's a genuinely hard thing for an author to pull off convincingly.

The writing itself is stunning. Mafi's prose in this book is lyrical and strange and beautiful all at once — there's genuinely nothing quite like it. Between the love triangle chaos and everything happening with the Reestablishment, I was on edge the entire time, and the writing carried every bit of that tension.
